Gardening Jargon – Pinching

Are you worried if some of the herbs or plants are not getting bushy?

The reason is you are not pinching your plants !!

Pinching is a way to trim the plant which helps them in more branching. Cut the head stem with your finger and thumbnail by pinching. It will encourage the side off shoots to grow. In following picture you can see the red mark , to pinch chamomile.

Do not pinch all the plants, some plants does not react to pinching, so verify if you have to pinch or prune.

Basil, Thyme, Mint, Oregano, Chamomile, Lavender, Aster, Petunias, Fuchsias, Dahlias, Sweet peas and Marigolds are some quick example you can pinch.
