Gardening Jargon – Bolting

When vegetable crops prematurely run to seed is called Bolting. It makes crops unusable for consumption.

Following are cause for bolting

– A cold spell
– Changes in day length
– Dry soil

Bolting is common in lettuce, spinach, red onions , leeks, carrot, beetroot and fennel
