Gardening Jargon – Leaf mold
|Leaf mold is a result of fungi over moist leave over the period. They form organic matter by the fungal breakdown of shrub and tree leaves.
Why to consider leaf mold based compost ?
- It helps in soil conditioning
- Increase the water-holding capacity of soil.
Please note, do not use leaves around the street which are collected for municipal pickup, because they may contain lots of sand, fuel, or oil residues.
Some people use this as a substitute of peat moss. Do you agree ? Please share your comments, suggestions with us. Your experience might help some gardener somewhere in his compost making.
