Espalier is the horticulture practice to control woody plant growth for fruit production by pruning and tying branches to the frame . If garden space is limited, consider these double duty plants which can add the decoration along with tasty fruits in the season.
I am surprise to know but at some places they are trained against wall to reflect more sunlight and keep heat overnight . Read more on wiki Espalier
In Elizabeth F Gamble Palo Alto Garden I found some interesting example of Espalier
You are noticing this trends in garden or in your neighbourhood. But now you know what it is 🙂 . Share with us which woody plants have you seen like these.
Happy Gardening !
They look so pretty, trained against a wall, don’t they and it makes the fruit easier to pick. However it is not for every gardener. Some like a more relaxed approach, letting the plant do its own thing.
